Samsung is reportedly gearing up to launch a beta program for its next major software update, One UI 8.5, potentially sooner than expected. Whispers suggest that the beta could drop as early as next month, offering users a sneak peek at the new features and improvements before the final version arrives.
Samsung Could Drop One UI 8.5 Beta in November
According to a report from SamMobile, Samsung might roll out the One UI 8.5 beta program in the week of November 24. This move would signal that Samsung has learned from the One UI 7 beta launch, which occurred in December, just weeks before the Galaxy S25 series announcement. The stable rollout of One UI 7 didn’t begin until April 2025, prompting Samsung to adjust its internal processes.
The Android 16-based software was launched with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 at the end of July, with older devices receiving the update in September.
Hopefully, Quick Releases for Older Devices
While Samsung hasn’t officially announced the update, it’s reasonable to assume that all devices running One UI 8 will be eligible for One UI 8.5, as both versions are based on Android 16. The company’s 2025 flagship smartphones are likely to be the first to receive access to the beta and the final release. However, owners of older devices might have to exercise some patience.
Samsung initiated the One UI 8 beta for the Galaxy S24 series months after Galaxy S25 owners could install it. If the company follows a similar pattern with the upcoming beta, access could be limited initially.
In contrast, Apple seems to be ahead of the game with its beta testing program and stable releases. The company typically launches a developer beta immediately after announcing iOS 26, followed by a public beta shortly after. Owners of the iPhone 16 can usually get their hands on the beta relatively quickly.

Regardless of the launch date, One UI 8.5 promises to be more than just a minor update. It’s expected to include several noteworthy features, such as an intelligent switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data, pro-grade camera features, and a way to deal with spam calls.
