OnePlus 13, 13s Get OxygenOS 16 with AI and Visual Overhaul
The AI revolution isn’t just hitting servers and self-driving cars; it’s now coursing through the veins of your smartphone. The OnePlus 13 and 13s are the latest devices to receive the OxygenOS 16 update, a massive overhaul that puts artificial intelligence front and center, promising a smarter, smoother, and more personalized user experience. The update is currently rolling out to users in India, with a wider release expected in the coming weeks. But what exactly does this AI-powered future look like for OnePlus users?

OxygenOS 16 isn’t just a fresh coat of paint; it’s a fundamental reimagining of the Android experience. The update, identified as `CPH2649_16.0.0.210 (EX01)` for the OnePlus 13 and `CPH2723_16.0.0.211 (EX01)` for the 13s, rests on four key pillars: AI integration, a new animation engine, performance tuning, and a significant visual refresh.

Android

The next-generation “Trinity Engine” dynamically optimizes workloads for video, gaming, and camera use. OnePlus claims this results in faster app launches, reduced background power consumption, and smarter task prioritization during intense gaming sessions.

Battery life gets a boost with a new network power-saving strategy for offline or roaming scenarios. The standard Power Saving mode now employs tiered performance management based on remaining battery levels.

Personalization and Connectivity

The “Flux Home screen” offers enhanced personalization options, including the ability to resize icons and shortcuts, use larger folder layouts, and even remove icon text entirely for a minimalist aesthetic. The app drawer is also smarter, featuring an index bar and auto-categorization.

OnePlus Connect (O+ Connect) gets a major upgrade, tightening the phone-to-PC ecosystem with screen mirroring, cross-device unlock, file transfers, and a shared clipboard.

Other Notable Enhancements

  • Camera (OnePlus 13): Motion photos are now available in Master mode, and an AI Doc Scanner cleans up scans of documents and screens.
  • Security: A “Phone Manager” on the OnePlus 13 provides Live Alerts for risky apps. Users can also long-press any Home screen app to lock or hide it.
  • Gaming: The Game Assistant now supports privacy-friendly captures that exclude notifications and supports simultaneous Motion screenshots and Flashback recording.
  • Always-On Display: A new full-screen Always-On Display can show wallpaper, widgets, and notifications while the screen is off.

The OxygenOS 16 rollout is staged, starting with a small percentage of users in India. To check for availability, navigate to Settings > System & Updates > Software update. Users in the Beta Program can also participate, assuming they meet the prerequisites.

The OxygenOS 16 update signals a clear shift towards AI-driven mobile experiences. Whether these features will truly revolutionize how we use our phones remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: the future of smartphones is getting smarter, one algorithm at a time.
