Synology has unveiled DiskStation Manager (DSM) 7.3, a significant update designed to enhance storage efficiency, security, and collaborative capabilities for modern data management challenges. The latest release introduces advanced features that address the rapidly growing complexity of data storage and processing, with a strong emphasis on AI-powered security and flexible storage solutions.
Synology Launches DSM 7.3 with Advanced AI Security Tools
Kenneth Hsu, Director of the System Group at Synology, emphasized the critical nature of the update, stating that as data continues to expand exponentially, organizations require sophisticated solutions to manage, process, and maximize their digital assets.
Data Tiering and Storage Optimization
The new Synology Tiering feature represents a breakthrough in storage management. This intelligent system automatically categorizes files across different storage devices based on access frequency. Frequently used “hot” data remains on high-performance storage, while rarely accessed “cold” data is transferred to more cost-effective solutions. Organizations can customize the process according to modification times and access patterns, enabling more efficient resource allocation.
Enhanced Security Measures
Security remains a paramount concern in DSM 7.3, building upon more than 50 proactive security updates implemented in the past year. The latest release strengthens protection mechanisms by incorporating industry-recognized risk indicators including EPSS, KEV, and LEV. These tools provide advanced threat prioritization and robust cybersecurity defense strategies.
Collaboration and Productivity Improvements
The Office Suite within DSM has received significant upgrades targeting team collaboration. Synology Drive now offers shared labels, streamlined file requests, and enhanced file locking capabilities. Additionally, MailPlus introduces an email moderation feature and supports domain sharing, facilitating more unified communication infrastructure.
AI and Data Privacy Innovations
With the Synology AI Console already deployed on over 430,000 systems since August 2025, the platform enables secure, on-premises AI-powered collaboration. DSM 7.3 introduces custom data masking and filtering options, allowing users to protect sensitive information before transmitting data to third-party AI providers. Future updates will include support for OpenAI-compatible APIs, enabling organizations to maintain data privacy while leveraging advanced AI technologies.
Expanded Storage Flexibility
Synology continues to expand storage options by collaborating with third-party drive manufacturers. Users of 2025 DiskStation Plus, Value, and J Series models running DSM 7.3 can now install and create storage pools using third-party drives. However, M.2 based storage pools and cache will still require drives from the official hardware compatibility list.
DSM 7.3 is now available for download, offering a comprehensive solution that addresses contemporary storage demands, evolving security requirements, and the increasing integration of AI into business workflows.
