Developer Embark Studios has been hit with a major server crisis. Both Arc Raiders and The Finals are currently weathering what the studio describes as extensive, coordinated
DDoS attacks, severely degrading server performance across both titles and preventing players from reliably joining matches.
According to Embark Studios, the Distributed Denial-of-Service attacks are ongoing, and the team is actively working to mitigate their impact. Players across both games are reporting frequent disconnects, rubber-banding, and getting stuck on loading screens.
One affected Arc Raiders player described the experience: Was just rubber banding and died because it was of course in front of a shredder, and now stuck on the loading screen while trying to join a new lobby.
Worst Timing Possible for Arc Raiders
The attacks have landed at the worst possible moment for Arc Raiders, which just pivoted to the extraction shooter genre and rolled out its Headwinds update. The patch introduced several headline features designed to grow the player base, including a solo vs. squads queue and the new Bird City map condition. Instead of capitalizing on the momentum, the studio is now fighting to keep servers online.
Player frustration is running high, with many hoping for a swift resolution and the potential return of any loot lost during disconnected matches. Embark has also stated it is working on a separate hotfix to address unrelated issues, which it expects to release soon.
A Targeted Attack on Both Titles
The coordinated nature of the attack across two of Embark’s major titles suggests a deliberate effort to disrupt the studio’s services rather than an isolated incident. This comes at a particularly high point for the company. The Finals has been a massive commercial success since its launch, while the newly revamped Arc Raiders is actively trying to carve out its place in the competitive extraction shooter market alongside rivals like Gray Zone Warfare.
What Players Should Know
- Platforms affected: The Finals (PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S) and Arc Raiders (PC)
- Both titles are free-to-play and currently live
- Status: Embark’s engineering team is actively working on mitigation
- Hotfix: A separate patch for unrelated bugs is also in the works
For now, players of both games will need to exercise patience. How quickly Embark resolves these issues will be a significant test for the studio’s infrastructure, particularly for Arc Raiders as it tries to build a dedicated community in one of the most competitive genres in gaming right now.
