Zoom has made its AI assistant available through a web browser at ai.zoom.us, creating a centralized hub for its generative AI tools. As part of the AI Companion 3.0 release, users with free Basic accounts can now access features like automated meeting summaries, AI-powered note-taking, and in-meeting questions. According to reports, this access is limited to three meetings per month, with up to 20 AI-driven questions per meeting. For users requiring more extensive access, Zoom is offering a standalone subscription for $10 per month.
AI Companion 3.0 introduces several new features designed to automate tasks and synthesize information. A key addition is “agentic retrieval,” which allows the AI to search for information across meeting summaries, transcripts, and connected third-party apps, including Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive. The company stated that support for Gmail and Outlook is planned for a future release. Other new functions include a “Daily Reflection Report” to summarize daily activities and a prompt template to automatically generate follow-up tasks and draft emails based on meeting content.
The launch is part of Zoom’s strategy to evolve from a video conferencing tool into an “AI-first intelligent work orchestration” platform. By offering core AI features to its free user base, the company aims to democratize access to its productivity tools and compete with similar offerings from Microsoft Teams and Google Meet. In a statement, Zoom CEO Eric Yuan said, In the AI era, we are leveraging AI to build an AI-first work platform – to have people connect to work smarter, better, and faster.
The full extent of limitations for free users beyond the three-meeting cap has not been detailed. It is also unclear how the performance and feature set for free users will compare to those on paid plans or the standalone $10 add-on. Specific timelines for the integration of Gmail and Outlook have not been publicly released.
The expansion of AI Companion to the web and free-tier users is expected to increase adoption and integrate Zoom more deeply into daily business workflows. The platform utilizes a federated AI approach, combining its own models with those from third parties like OpenAI and Anthropic. This update positions Zoom to gather more user interaction data to further refine its AI capabilities and expand its role in the competitive productivity software market.
