Samsung Galaxy AI Now Packs Gemini's Nano Banana
The relentless march of AI continues, now embedding itself even deeper into the everyday smartphone experience. Samsung’s Galaxy AI is getting a shot of Google’s “Nano Banana” image-editing prowess, promising a whimsical, if not always perfect, end-of-day selfie transformation. This update to the Now Brief feature lets you remix your photos with AI, and it highlights how quickly AI tools are becoming integrated into our daily digital routines.

Nano Banana, for the uninitiated, is Google’s surprisingly nimble image-editing AI, already a part of the Gemini suite. Think of it as a pocket-sized Photoshop wizard: you feed it a photo and a prompt, and it’ll attempt to conjure the requested changes, from swapping backgrounds to completely altering the scene.

Samsung is taking the Nano Banana integration a step further. A recent update to the Personal Data Intelligence app, which powers the “Now Brief” feature, introduces a Nano Banana image-generation card.

Here’s how it works: At the end of the day, Now Brief will automatically pluck a random selfie or front-facing photo from your gallery. It will then offer a few pre-made prompts that you can tap to instantly generate an AI-transformed version of that picture.

To enable the feature,

  1. Update the Personal Data Intelligence app from the Galaxy Store and
  2. Toggle on “Nano Banana image creation” within Now Brief’s settings under the “Content to include” section.

Once Gemini finishes its work, you can save, copy, or share the result instantly.

The results, as with any AI image generator, can be a mixed bag. Expect the occasional surreal or downright bizarre outcome. But the core idea is to inject a little bit of AI-powered fun into your day.

As Galaxy AI’s Drawing Assist feature demonstrates, Samsung is keen to explore the possibilities of AI-driven creative tools.

More Control with Gemini and Drawing Assist

For those who crave more control over the creative process, the Gemini app itself offers a more hands-on approach. Simply open Gemini, upload a photo, and type in your desired prompt. The possibilities are limited only by your imagination (and the AI’s interpretation of it).

Don’t forget Galaxy AI’s Drawing Assist feature. Access it from the Edge panel to sketch something and have it turned into a polished piece of art or create an image from a text prompt.

While the “Now Brief” integration might seem like a minor addition, it reflects a broader trend: AI is becoming increasingly integrated into the fabric of our mobile devices, blurring the lines between utility and entertainment. As AI models continue to evolve, expect to see even more creative and unexpected applications emerge, further transforming how we interact with our smartphones and our own digital identities.
