Towerborne 1.0 launches February on Xbox, PC, PS5
Towerborne is officially leaving early access. Stoic’s side-scrolling action RPG brawler launches its full 1.0 release on , bringing the game to PlayStation 5 for the first time alongside PC and Xbox. The release marks more than a version bump – it’s a fundamental shift in how the game is played, owned, and experienced.

The biggest change: Towerborne is moving away from its original free-to-play, always-online model. The full release is now a buy-once premium game with full offline support, while still allowing online co-op for players who want it. Stoic says the decision was driven directly by community feedback during early access.

  • Platforms: PC (Steam, Xbox on PC), Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5
  • Release Date:
  • Price: $24.99 (Standard), $29.99 (Deluxe). Included with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and Premium
  • Developer: Stoic
  • Genre: Side-scrolling Action RPG Brawler

In Towerborne, players take on the role of an Ace — an immortal warrior sworn to defend the Belfry, humanity’s last refuge, from relentless monster invasions. The 1.0 release completes the game’s narrative arc, introducing a central antagonist, new story quests, and a redesigned Bounty Board system to support long-term play.

Combat and progression are also receiving major updates. Stoic has rebuilt the difficulty system from the ground up, including a new Brutal mode aimed at experienced players. Exploration expands with a reimagined World Map and a new coastal biome, while gear, abilities, and progression systems have been refined to support deeper customization.

What’s included in the 1.0 update:

  • Complete story: Full narrative arc with a major antagonist, new side quests, and a revamped Bounty Board
  • New enemies and bosses: Two new bosses, including the main villain, plus lieutenants and Umbra enemies
  • Reworked difficulty: Full balance pass and a new Brutal difficulty mode
  • Expanded world: Reimagined World Map and a brand-new coastal biome
  • Progression upgrades: New gear, abilities, and a Forge system for upgrading, modifying, and re-rolling stats
  • Audio and polish: New music by Austin Wintory, quality-of-life improvements, and bug fixes
  • Player-friendly changes: All cosmetics earnable through gameplay, multiple save slots, and character import from early access

Stoic describes the shift to a premium model as a way to give players permanent ownership of the full experience. With this full game update, Towerborne shifts from its original vision as a free-to-play, always-online title into a buy-once, offline game — you will own the complete experience permanently, with offline play and online co-op, the studio said.

For fans of cooperative beat ’em ups and action RPGs built around progression and skill-driven combat, Towerborne’s full release is shaping up to be a strong comeback. With its PS5 debut, complete story, and player-first monetization shift, the 1.0 launch on positions the game as a more focused and finished experience.
