- Developer: An initiative by ENVER and Trass Games
- Genre: Social VR
Following the massive success of the free-to-play title UG, which became a top-grossing game on the Meta Quest platform, investment partners ENVER and Trass Games have announced a joint initiative to fund new VR games. They are committing up to $2 million to support what they call ’emerging VR studios’ that are building “social-first, original experiences.”
ENVER, the studio also known for Scary Baboon, provided funding and marketing advisory for UG. This new fund aims to replicate that success by providing both capital and crucial guidance to help promising new studios scale their projects and find an audience in the competitive VR landscape.
The move is a direct response to clear market trends. According to the announcement, the free-to-play social genre has shown more growth than any other in the VR space, proving particularly popular with younger users. This is reflected in the Meta Quest charts, where six of the top ten grossing titles are free-to-play. UG shares the top of the charts with heavy-hitters like Gorilla Tag, Roblox, and VRChat.
Kyle Joyce, CEO of ENVER, stated the goal is to build a sustainable model for success. UG shows what’s possible when strong developers are backed,”
he said. This collaboration with Trass Games is about building a repeatable model. We want to find the next studios with real potential and give them the resources and guidance to scale.
At present, there has been no word on which studios or specific projects will be the first to receive funding from this new initiative.
For indie VR developers, this is a massive signal that serious money is flowing into the social VR space. It’s not just about a great idea anymore; there’s a clear path to funding for teams that can build compelling, social-first games. For gamers, this means we should keep an eye out for a new wave of polished, well-funded social VR titles that could emerge from this initiative, potentially bringing fresh competition to the established giants on the platform.
