New Relic Integrates Agentic AI with Azure to Cut Downtime

In the high-stakes world of cloud computing, downtime is the enemy. New Relic’s integration of agentic AI with Microsoft Azure promises to be a significant weapon in that fight, aiming to slash mean time to resolution (MTTR) and boost developer productivity. By embedding intelligent observability directly into Azure workflows, New Relic hopes to give engineers the insights they need, right where they’re working.

The move comes as businesses increasingly rely on AI-powered solutions, and as Azure itself experiences impressive growth. However, disjointed workflows and isolated AI assistants often hinder the very teams tasked with keeping these complex systems running smoothly. The partnership between New Relic and Microsoft seeks to bridge that gap.

New Relic’s approach revolves around bringing its “intelligent observability” platform directly into the Azure ecosystem. This means developers, ITOps, DevOps, SREs, and platform engineering teams can access critical telemetry data and insights without constantly switching between different tools.

Brian Emerson, Chief Product Officer at New Relic, emphasized the importance of this integration: “AI agents are poised to transform how IT and development teams work, but leaders and practitioners need intelligent observability within their workflows to realise the full potential of agentic AI.”

The integration leverages New Relic’s AI Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server, allowing Azure’s SRE Agent and Microsoft Foundry to tap into New Relic’s observability insights. The MCP server provides the intelligence necessary to automate incident detection, root cause analysis, and remediation across the Azure customer’s environment, including services, browser and mobile.

Azure SRE Agent Empowerment

The Azure SRE Agent now integrates with the New Relic AI MCP Server. When an alert fires in New Relic, or a deployment is recorded, the Azure SRE Agent calls the New Relic MCP Server to provide intelligent observability insights. This aims to accelerate incident response and time-to-market by providing teams with detailed data and insights within their existing workflows.

Microsoft Foundry Productivity Boost

For teams managing AI applications and agents within Microsoft Foundry (built in GitHub, Visual Studio, Copilot Studio, and Microsoft Fabric), the New Relic integration provides critical telemetry data and intelligent observability. New Relic Monitoring for Microsoft Foundry ingests logs and metrics from Azure into New Relic, delivering a detailed view of application performance.

Unified Infrastructure Solution

New Relic Azure Autodiscovery allows users to view a service’s full dependency maps, overlaying configuration changes directly on performance graphs. This helps engineers pinpoint an incident’s root cause quickly. The solution is tailored for Azure, ensuring engineers can rapidly discover unmonitored resources and integrate them into their observability workflows.

New Relic Monitoring for SAP Solutions is now available on the Microsoft Marketplace. This offers a native connector to SAP and non-SAP systems, providing predictive insights without deploying agents in SAP. The goal is to minimize business process interruptions related to SAP systems.

“Microsoft Azure helps IT teams and developers build AI-powered solutions that scale and inspire,” said Julia Liuson, President, Developer Division at Microsoft. “These teams deserve a seamless workflow without switching between tools. Our latest integrations with New Relic mean that teams receive intelligent insights from Azure’s AI agents within their workflows so they understand exactly what’s going on during incidents. We’re driving an accelerated time to value and helping teams do more, faster.”

The global AI spending is forecasted to top US$2 trillion in 2026, according to Gartner, and Azure achieved 33% revenue growth in Q1 2025. The integration between New Relic and Azure could be a critical step in ensuring that this rapid growth doesn’t come at the expense of reliability and performance, ultimately empowering developers and IT teams to fully leverage the potential of AI in the cloud.
