Akamai Launches AI Tool for Search Optimization
Akamai Technologies has launched “AI Brand Presence,” a new solution poised to revolutionize how corporate web content interacts with artificial intelligence. This platform is designed to automatically convert website material into formats optimized for large language model (LLM) search engines and AI agents, addressing a critical shift in online consumer behavior.

Akamai Unveils AI Brand Presence to Optimize Content for LLMs

The “AI Brand Presence” solution, according to Akamai, automatically converts corporate website content into formats that are easier for LLM search engines and AI agents to interpret. This innovative platform also offers a dashboard, providing insights into which AI models are visiting a site and the specific content they are consuming. Furthermore, it incorporates security functions at the edge environment level, monitoring bot activity to protect enterprise digital assets.

Akamai highlights a significant trend: consumers are increasingly discovering brands through AI-generated search responses rather than directly navigating to company websites. This behavioral change has led to a dramatic surge in AI bot traffic on enterprise websites, which Akamai reports has increased over 300% in the past year. The company also points to the growing “zero-click” phenomenon, where approximately 60% of searches no longer result in users clicking through to websites. Traditional marketing funnel strategies are struggling to adapt to these evolving digital habits.

Real-time Content Adaptation for AI Engagement

To counter these challenges, Akamai developed AI Brand Presence to restructure website information into AI-friendly formats. This process operates seamlessly in the background, ensuring no disruption to the experience of general website visitors. The integrated dashboard is a key feature, showing which AI models interact with a site and their content consumption patterns. This capability enables companies to track how these AI interactions translate into actual traffic and customer engagement, allowing for proactive responses to AI-driven information discovery and decision-making across various industries, including e-commerce.

Akamai tested its new technology by applying it to its own global website, comparing an optimized version against its existing site. The company claims the optimized version achieved a 99% reduction in data volume for AI processing efficiency. This optimization led to an 85% increase in AI citation frequency. Moreover, brand visibility in generic searches, without direct mentions of the Akamai name, reportedly rose by 364%. Akamai also observed a 133% increase in Akamai-related exposure within ChatGPT compared with competitors.

Initial Rollout Targets North American Enterprises

The “AI Brand Presence” solution will initially be rolled out to selected customers within North America. This strategic launch aims to provide initial users with a competitive edge in the rapidly changing landscape of AI-driven search and content consumption. The insights gained from this early deployment will likely inform broader availability and feature enhancements.
