Players on PlayStation 5 can now download Metal Gear Solid 4 update 1.004.003, while Peace Walker received update 1.301. Both arrive as separate client-side downloads for the Master Collection versions of these games.
Fixing a Progression Blocker in Act 3
The Metal Gear Solid 4 update, Ver.1.4.1 on PlayStation 5, addresses a significant issue that could halt player progress in Act 3 under specific conditions. Konami also rolled in minor fixes and adjustments alongside the main patch.
Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker received its own update, Ver.1.3.1 on PlayStation 5 and Ver.1.3.2 on Steam. This patch primarily changes the search method used when executing “SEARCH HOST,” along with several other minor adjustments.
The Act 3 fix matters most here. It’s the kind of blocker that stops progress cold, whether you’re a new player working through the collection for the first time or a veteran revisiting these games years later. The source also notes new voice lines for Otacon were added to account for the collection being digital only, a small touch that acknowledges how players actually experience these remasters now.
Given both titles are largely self-contained experiences, extensive further updates aren’t expected. Konami’s focus here is stability, not new content.
Preserving Kojima’s Original Vision
The Master Collection Vol. 2 aims to preserve these classic titles while removing the technical limitations that shaped them back in 2008.
Whether you’re a long-time veteran returning to watch the sun set on Solid Snake’s final mission or a newcomer finally getting the chance to experience the complete timeline from start to finish, Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 is an absolute must-play.
Konami has also hinted at rebooting other Metal Gear, Castlevania, and Suikoden IPs, suggesting these patches are part of a broader push to keep its classic franchises active rather than just archived.
