A System App Gives It Away
The first official mention of One UI 9.5 appeared in version 11.1.24.8 of Samsung’s Nearby Device Scanning app, whose changelog simply read “One UI 9.5 updates.” Samsung-specialist outlet SamMobile confirmed the finding on October 2, a day after SammyFans first spotted the changelog entry. The update also carried a redesigned app logo, an early hint at the visual direction Samsung is taking.
Nearby Device Scanning is a background platform service rather than a consumer-facing app, so a changelog referencing an unreleased OS version is a reliable signal that Samsung’s engineers are already building against it internally. The same pattern played out with One UI 8.5: APKMirror’s archived changelogs show that version referenced in the same app back in January 2026, months before it launched publicly alongside the Galaxy S26 in February 2026.
Development Is Running Five Weeks Ahead
Internal builds for One UI 9.5, internally designated CHZ1, showed up for the Galaxy S26 on August 10, five to six weeks earlier than the One UI 8.5 cycle, which only began in mid-September 2025. That head start points to a faster rollout this time around. If the pattern holds, beta testing could open as early as late October or November, well ahead of the December 8 start date for the One UI 8.5 beta on the Galaxy S25.
One UI 9.5 will likely sit on top of Android 17 QPR2, following Google’s Quarterly Platform Release cycle the same way One UI 8.5 ran on Android 16 QPR2. Since QPRs add features without bumping the major Android version, that stable base frees Samsung to focus on design changes rather than core platform work.
What Leaks Point To
Early builds extracted by researchers in August, alongside screenshots, suggest a glass-inspired redesign across the interface:
- Floating tab bars and system popups with added transparency and depth
- Smoother home screen animations and a redesigned camera app
- Expanded search bar layouts and dark mode icons that finally shift with dark mode
- A dedicated satellite connectivity hub for emergency messaging
The most notable leaked feature is “App Cast,” a rebrand of the previously known “App Mirroring,” which would wirelessly stream phone apps and notifications to a Windows PC as long as both devices share a Samsung Account, echoing how Infinix and others have pushed similar cross-device features, and functioning much like Apple’s iPhone Mirroring on macOS. Samsung hasn’t confirmed any technical details yet, so the feature could still change before release.
Who Gets It, and When
Samsung hasn’t published a compatibility list, but based on past rollouts the Galaxy S27 series should ship with One UI 9.5 pre-installed, with the S26, S25, and S24 families expected to qualify as well. A flagship beta program could open in late October or November 2026, with a stable release tied to the Galaxy S27 launch in early 2027 and a phased rollout continuing through the first half of that year. Samsung’s seven-year OS update commitment, in place since the Galaxy S24, keeps a wide pool of devices in line for the update.
