Independent studio That’s No Moon, founded by AAA veterans, has officially announced its debut title. Crossfire is a single-player, narrative-driven tactical action-adventure exclusive to Xbox Series X|S. Players can already add it to their wishlist.
A Genre-Redefining Cover System
The standout feature of Crossfire is its Adaptive Cover system, which fundamentally changes how tactical combat works. Rather than hiding behind static objects, the protagonist Layla dynamically responds to terrain and enemy positions, adjusting her stance in real time to maintain cover while staying mobile.
Game Director Jacob Minkoff explains that this system transforms cover from a passive mechanic into an active skill players must master. Adaptive Cover enhances immersion by making you feel the weight of every decision,
creating a richer, more intricate relationship between players and their environment.
Unlikely Partners in the Atlas Mountains
The story follows Layla Qassem, a mercenary sent on a reconnaissance contract in the Atlas Mountains. What begins as a routine operation quickly becomes a desperate fight for survival when an existential threat emerges.
Forced to survive impossible odds, Layla must forge an alliance with Delroy Cross, a Tier-One Operator she would normally never trust. Ideologically opposed but united by necessity, their fragile partnership becomes their only hope against the threats closing in.
Cinematic Storytelling Meets Lethal Combat
That’s No Moon aims to deliver character-driven narratives of the highest quality while advancing the medium. Crossfire combines cinematic storytelling with grounded, innovative stealth mechanics that reward strategic thinking and experimentation. The promise is tense, lethal combat where every move matters.
This announcement is just the beginning. The studio is sharing development updates across X, Instagram, Threads, TikTok, and Bluesky. More details are expected to follow as development progresses.
