DMCA Takedowns Follow the Leak
Rockstar Games is issuing DMCA takedowns against channels sharing the leaked content, echoing a significant breach back in 2022 that also saw GTA VI footage surface online. The new leaks include two minute-long gameplay clips and a screenshot of the game’s map. Grand Theft Auto VI is still set to launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 19.
Leonida Looks Like a Compressed Florida
The leaked map, named Leonida, appears as a compressed version of South Florida. A large city resembling Miami sits on the east side, while extensive green spaces dominate the west and north. Numerous islands, including a cluster similar to the Florida Keys, dot the southern region. Map markers hint at gameplay elements too, including a home, a balaclava, cars, and even an alligator.
Jason’s Workout Hints at RPG Systems
One clip features Jason, one of the game’s two protagonists, at a waterside home. He’s seen using gym equipment reminiscent of the workout system from GTA San Andreas. Jason then picks up a basketball, and scoring a shot grants him a focus stat boost, suggesting GTA VI will lean into RPG mechanics more than previous entries.
The HUD in this clip shows dollar values in the top right corner and a focus bar in the top left. The building itself matches an official screenshot of Jason’s safehouse that Rockstar has already released.
A Wrench, a Wanted Level, and a Karma System
A second clip shows Jason causing some mild carnage after a U-turn near The Keys. He collides with a delivery truck, then kills the driver with a wrench, an action that depletes an energy bar and earns him a two star wanted level.
A devil icon with a minus sign also appears on screen, pointing to an honor or karma system similar to what players saw in Red Dead Redemption. A few other details stand out:
- Prompts for “loadout” and “storage” suggest deeper weapon and item management
- A gas meter implies vehicle fueling will be a new mechanic in GTA VI
Where the Leak Might Have Come From
These leaks are plausible, though their age and accuracy remain unconfirmed. Rockstar’s servers were reportedly breached earlier this year, which could explain how the footage got out. The alleged leaker claims to be protesting Rockstar’s decision to include only a code, rather than a physical disc, with the game’s physical edition. They’ve threatened further action against publishers over what they describe as “anti-consumer practices.”
