What Rockstar Actually Said
Rockstar Games sent a support email to customers clarifying that the current pre-order is for a digital-only update. The company stated that a “physical copy” would be available “during the following months.”
The phrasing is deliberately ambiguous. Rockstar didn’t specify whether “following months” means after the November 19 release date or before it. And they used the vague term “physical copy” rather than explicitly saying “disc,” which has only added to player confusion about what they’re actually getting.
The Insider Claim About December
Polish gaming outlet PPE.pl reported that an insider named Graczdari claims the physical disc version will ship in December 2026. According to the report, Rockstar plans an initial code-in-box release followed later by a traditional disc version.
Graczdari has some credibility here. The insider correctly leaked in March 2026 that GTA 6 would launch without a physical disc, despite widespread skepticism at the time. That prediction proved accurate. However, Graczdari’s overall track record is spotty at best, so this December claim should be treated with healthy skepticism until Rockstar confirms it officially.
How the Controversy Started
The whole thing exploded when GTA 6 pre-order details went public. Players immediately noticed that the physical edition contained only a download code, not an actual disc. The backlash was swift and widespread across gaming communities, with longtime fans frustrated about losing physical media for a $70 game.
Rockstar’s vague support email is currently the only official response. The company hasn’t issued a clear, public statement on its website, leaving crucial questions about the actual physical release plan unanswered.
The support email could easily be an auto-generated response, which would explain the ambiguous wording. The insider claim, while intriguing thanks to past accuracy, still needs official confirmation from Rockstar before treating it as fact.
For now, players should wait for a more explicit statement directly from Rockstar on its official channels. A proper clarification about release timing and what “physical copy” actually means would go a long way toward settling this controversy.
