Visual Intelligence Expands to Food Labels and Contacts
Apple’s Visual Intelligence tool is receiving at least two new capabilities in iOS 27. The first will let users scan food nutrition labels to extract dietary information, which could integrate directly into the Health app for tracking purposes. The second capability will recognize printed phone numbers and addresses, offering to add them directly to the Contacts app. This mirrors existing Visual Intelligence functionality that already adds calendar dates to Calendar, making the contact feature a natural expansion of the tool’s current scope.
Wallet Gets AI-Powered Pass Generation
The Wallet app is expected to gain the ability to generate digital passes from scans of physical items like event tickets and gym membership cards. Google Wallet for Android already offers similar functionality, using AI to analyze and convert pass content. Apple’s implementation would bring feature parity to its iPhone users.
Safari Tab Groups Get Automatic Naming
Safari is slated to receive an AI feature that automatically names Tab Groups based on the contents of open tabs within each group. This small but practical addition could streamline browser organization for power users managing multiple research projects or workflows simultaneously.
Context Behind the Timing
These features align with Apple’s broader AI strategy for iOS 27, which includes a smarter version of Siri with deeper app integration. The company is also reportedly developing AI wearable devices including smart glasses, AirPods with cameras, and a wearable AI pin or pendant. Apple has not officially confirmed any of these features. The discovery comes from interpreting individual code strings, which means functionality descriptions are interpretations rather than confirmed specifications.
