European retail trading is consolidating. FxPro has agreed to sell its European client book to Capital.com, a deal that trims FxPro’s footprint on the continent while handing Capital.com a ready-made batch of EU accounts. Neither company has disclosed the financial terms, but the move fits a broader pattern this week of brokers either shrinking to focus or expanding into new products.

FxPro Hands EU Clients to Capital.com

FxPro will transfer its European client accounts to Capital.com as part of a deal aimed at streamlining FxPro’s own operations and sharpening its business focus elsewhere. For Capital.com, absorbing an established client base is a faster route to EU scale than building one from scratch. The financial details of the transaction have not been made public.

Elsewhere, retail FX broker NAGA revised its first-half profit upward, now putting the figure at EUR 1.1 million in its final numbers, a step up from the preliminary estimate NAGA reported earlier this year.

Brokers Widen Their Product Lines

Several platforms used the week to roll out new offerings rather than consolidate:

On the research side, an ESMA study found that social media sentiment is linked to losses among retail traders, a finding that adds to ongoing scrutiny of how online trends shape retail investing decisions.

A Statistic Doing More Work Than It Should

ESMA framing social media as something that drives retail losses is a stronger claim than the underlying data likely supports. What a sentiment study can show is that traders who follow social media chatter tend to lose more, not that the chatter itself is the cause. Retail investors already prone to chasing hype are probably overrepresented in both groups. The regulatory conclusion may be sound, but the causal language is doing more work than the evidence probably allows.
