Safari’s Missing Icons Are Back
Users of iOS 26 often found Safari’s redesigned Compact toolbar frustrating. The Liquid Glass aesthetic was polarizing on its own, but the real problem was practical. The All Tabs icon disappeared from easy reach, forcing awkward gestures that, according to CNET’s Jason Chun, led to frequent accidental app exits.
iOS 27 restores the All Tabs icon to Safari’s Compact toolbar, replacing the three dot menu that iOS 26 introduced in its place. To find it:
- Open

- Tap the All Tabs icon, shown as two overlapping squares
Long pressing the icon still gives you the option to open a new tab or switch to private browsing.
The Bookmarks icon makes a similar return. Open a new tab using the plus sign, and you’ll find the Bookmarks icon at the top of the screen, giving you quick access to bookmarks, Reading List, and History.
Tabs Now Sort Themselves
iOS 27 also introduces automatic tab organization, which filters open tabs by category. Tap the All Tabs icon, then the three line icon near the top, and your tabs appear sorted rather than as one long unsorted list. It’s a genuinely useful addition for anyone who treats their tab bar like a to do list. Chun, for reference, keeps 72 tabs open at once, calling them his “emotional support tabs.”
Getting the Beta and What Else Changed
Both developer and public beta versions of iOS 27 are available now, with the full release expected in the coming weeks. Beta software usually comes with some instability, but Chun reports a smooth experience so far, noting everything feels faster even in Low Power Mode.
Beyond Safari, the update includes a transparency slider for the Liquid Glass aesthetic, letting users adjust how much of the effect they actually want. Siri also shows early signs of improvement in this beta.
As Chun put it after testing the changes: “My thumbs are already grateful.”
