Open the Nvidia Control Panel first, not the newer Nvidia App, which is a separate tool. Right-click on your desktop, select Show more options, then click Nvidia Control Panel. A navigation list appears on the left, and the settings that matter most live under the 3D Settings group.
Global 3D Settings Worth Changing
Click Manage 3D Settings to get started. You can always revert to defaults later using the Restore button if something feels off.

Click Apply at the bottom right once you’ve worked through the list.
Display and PhysX Configuration
Head to Configure Surround, PhysX and make sure the PhysX setting points to your GPU rather than Auto-select. This one gets overlooked often and can leave performance on the table without you noticing.
From there, go to Change Resolution and confirm your monitor is running at its proper resolution with the highest refresh rate available. Finally, check the Adjust desktop size and position menu. If you’re not running a stretched resolution setup, set the scaling mode to No scaling.
With these settings applied, your Nvidia Control Panel is tuned for better gaming performance. It’s still worth checking in-game settings for anything performance-intensive like ray tracing, high shadow quality, or volumetric effects, since these often outweigh whatever gains you get from driver-level tweaks. And none of this matters much if your GPU drivers are outdated, so confirm you’re running the latest version before writing off any lingering performance issues.
