New leaks suggest the Samsung Galaxy S27 series will finally pack meaningfully larger batteries. The top-tier Galaxy S27 Ultra may ship with a 5700mAh or even 5800mAh battery, representing a 14 to 16% increase over its predecessor.
The Galaxy S27 Pro is expected to house a 5200mAh battery, according to GalaxyClub’s report.
Breaking Years of Stagnation
This upgrade is significant because the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra maintained a 5000mAh battery for six consecutive generations. That stagnation left many users frustrated and gave competitors an opening.
While Samsung played it safe, rivals moved aggressively:
- Xiaomi pushed to higher capacity cells
- Oppo expanded battery options
- Honor matched or exceeded Samsung’s specs
Samsung’s caution stemmed from real concerns. The company faced past battery safety issues, and similar problems recently resurfaced. That hesitation, while understandable, left the door open for competitors.
How Silicon Carbon Technology Makes It Possible
The battery boost likely comes from adopting Silicon Carbon (Si-C) technology. This material allows for denser batteries without increasing phone thickness, solving the problem that previously forced Samsung to choose between bigger batteries and thinner designs.
This is why the upgrade matters now. The technology addresses the core tension that kept Samsung locked at 5000mAh for years.
Other S27 Upgrades on the Horizon
Battery isn’t the only area getting attention. Both the S27 Pro and Ultra are rumored to feature:
- 50MP main camera (matching current generation)
- 50MP ultra-wide camera (upgraded from current specs)
- 16MP square front camera (a design shift inspired by iPhone 17)
What’s Coming and What It Means
Official announcements for the Galaxy S27 lineup are expected in January. Until then, rumors will continue around devices like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8.
The real question isn’t whether the battery upgrade is real, the technology supports it. The question is pricing. The Galaxy S26 Ultra currently starts at £1,279. Will Samsung charge a premium for finally catching up to what competitors offered years ago, or will the upgraded battery be part of a standard refresh?
