In light mode the new icon is black on a white background. Dark mode flips it to white on black. It follows an updated Apple Music logo that showed up in an earlier iOS 27.2 beta and in Apple’s marketing, so the app icon is now catching up with the rest of the brand.
Blue Replaces Red Inside the App
The Music app in beta 4 has also lost most of its signature color. Apple changed these elements:
- Selected navigation bar icons now use blue highlights instead of red
- Text in the Music app’s settings has shifted from red to blue
- Apple Music widgets now use a black background instead of red
Taken together, the changes point to a deliberate phase-out of the red branding rather than a one-off icon tweak.
A Rebrand Landing Alongside the iCloud+ Bundle
The timing is notable. iOS 27 became widely available on September 14, 2026, so Apple is already refining core apps in the point-release betas. The company also recently bundled Apple TV, Apple Arcade, and curated Apple Music stations into paid iCloud+ subscriptions across more than 100 countries. A neutral, monochrome look fits a service that is increasingly sold as one piece of a larger package instead of a standalone product.
Everything described here is still in beta. The public release of iOS 27.2 will bring the new icon and blue accents to all users, and the shift away from red is the clearest sign yet of where Apple Music’s visual identity is headed.
