New Deal: Google Cloud and Qatar Are Expanding Their Digital Transformation

Google Cloud and Qatar’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) have renewed their long-running Master Framework Agreement, strengthening a partnership that’s been central to Qatar’s digital push. The signing took place at MWC Doha, marking the next phase of a collaboration built around secure cloud services and advanced AI capabilities aligned with Qatar National Vision 2030.

What the Renewal Actually Means

The MCIT has spent the past few years building local expertise and modernizing public services. Google’s Doha cloud region has been a major part of that shift, giving ministries and national enterprises access to scalable infrastructure and AI tools without relying on distant datacenters. The updated agreement keeps that momentum going and adds a stronger emphasis on generative AI, analytics, and long-term modernization.

During the ceremony, Google Cloud leaders highlighted how the previous phase of the MFA helped ministries adopt AI-driven solutions and improve internal workflows. The renewed deal is designed to push those early gains into full-scale government transformation.

Voices From the Signing

Mr. Sami Mohammad Al-Shammari, Assistant Undersecretary for Infrastructure and Operations Affairs at MCIT, described the renewal as a continuation of “a successful partnership” that has already reshaped Qatar’s public sector. He emphasized the Ministry’s goal of pairing secure cloud infrastructure with practical, data-driven improvements for government services.

Ghassan Kosta, regional general manager for Google Cloud in Qatar, Oman, Bahrain and Iraq, said the renewed MFA “affirms the value of our intelligent cloud infrastructure” and positions Google Cloud as a long-term partner in Qatar’s move toward a knowledge-based economy. He noted that the Doha cloud region remains central to delivering AI tools and secure infrastructure tailored for government workloads.

Why This Matters for Qatar

The country has spent years pushing toward a diversified digital economy. The MCIT leads this effort by introducing advanced technologies, improving e-government services, and supporting startups that contribute to national innovation. Renewing the Google Cloud partnership gives Qatar continued access to global-scale infrastructure while keeping control under its national strategy.

For anyone following the region’s tech ecosystem, this renewal signals that Qatar plans to deepen its investment in AI, cybersecurity, and data analytics rather than slowing down.
