The demo is available across PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, the original Switch, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and Xbox on PC. It covers the game’s opening, spanning roughly three to five hours of gameplay, and save data carries over into the full release so nothing played now goes to waste at launch.
A new trailer shown during State of Play confirmed an unexpected addition: Sephiroth. Players can find and challenge him within the game, with defeating him promising a special reward. It’s a notable crossover moment for a title that marks the first HD-2D entry in Final Fantasy history, blending pixel art aesthetics with modern graphical fidelity.
The game runs on a strategic turn-based battle system with contemporary twists, alongside returning series staples like chocobos, espers, and airships. Familiar faces including Cloud, Tidus, and the Warrior of Light also make appearances throughout.
Final Fantasy Resonance pulls its narrative from the first story arc of the mobile game Final Fantasy Brave Exvius. Square Enix has been clear that this isn’t a straight port. The story has been extensively rebuilt into a full console-quality RPG, giving fans of the original mobile title a fresh way to experience that arc.
Pre-orders are now live across all announced platforms, with the full release still on track for October 22, 2026.
