Google Slashes AI Plus Price to $5 Monthly With Double Storage
Google has cut the price of its AI Plus subscription plan to $4.99 per month, down from the original $7.99, while simultaneously doubling included cloud storage from 200GB to 400GB. The move comes shortly after Google I/O 2026 and represents a significant price reduction designed to make Gemini AI models more accessible to mainstream users.

The AI Plus subscription now delivers substantially more value than when it became available in January 2026. Subscribers gain access to Gemini 3 Pro, Nano Banana Pro, and Deep Research capabilities. The plan also includes new productivity features announced at Google I/O 2026, including AI-powered email tools for Gmail, a Daily Brief agent that summarizes your upcoming schedule in the Gemini app, and access to Gemini Omni, Google’s latest model for generating video from any input type.

How to Upgrade and When to Expect Changes

According to a post from Vikas Kansal, Google’s Product Lead for Gemini AI subscriptions, the pricing update rolled out on June 8, 2026. New customers can sign up immediately through Google’s website at the new $4.99 monthly rate.

Existing subscribers will see the benefits applied automatically. According to Kansal, current plan members should receive their additional 200GB of storage within the next few days, with the reduced subscription price reflected on their next billing cycle. No manual action is required to access the expanded storage or updated pricing.

How This Compares to Google’s Other AI Plans

The AI Plus tier now sits between basic Gemini access and the premium AI Pro plan, which costs $20 monthly. The Pro tier offers higher usage limits and access to additional advanced features, but the Plus plan delivers strong value at less than one-quarter the price. The storage doubling to 400GB makes the Plus plan particularly competitive for users who need both AI capabilities and cloud backup space.

Google is banking on the aggressive pricing to drive adoption of its Gemini ecosystem. The $4.99 entry point removes a significant barrier for users curious about AI subscriptions but hesitant to commit at the original $7.99 level. Combined with the storage boost, the plan targets users who want productivity enhancements without paying for Pro-tier capabilities. Subscribers should monitor their accounts over the coming days for the storage expansion and verify the new pricing on their next billing statement.
