How the Scam Works

Fake websites are circulating online, presenting themselves as legitimate portals for early access to Grand Theft Auto VI. These pages instruct buyers to pay a fee in cryptocurrency, typically BTC, USDT, or Ethereum, and then enter a payment code to unlock the game.

However, these offers are entirely bogus, according to Stefan Dasic, Senior Malware Research Engineer at Malwarebytes. He explained that any site claiming to sell GTA 6 early access without official Rockstar Games authorization is fraudulent. No legitimate early access exists outside of official channels.

What Makes These Sites Convincing

The scam websites are designed to appear premium and exclusive. They feature distinctive neon Vice City artwork, official-looking GTA 6 logos, luxury cars, and AI-generated images to enhance their credibility. Language like VIP Digital Access or Exclusive Early Access Preview is common in their sales pitches.

One observed site charged $250 and accepted only Bitcoin, USDT, or Ethereum. The final step involves victims sending cryptocurrency and then being prompted to enter a transaction ID for a non-existent download. These sites even include QR codes and payment verification messages to create a convincing, yet completely fake, payment flow.

Why Gamers Are Vulnerable

The Grand Theft Auto franchise is one of the most successful in gaming history. Take-Two Interactive reports over 465 million copies sold globally, with GTA 5 alone accounting for more than 225 million sales.

The long gap between releases has fueled immense speculation. GTA 5 launched in September 2013, and GTA 6 is scheduled for November 19, 2026. Scammers capitalize on this intense excitement and the years-long wait for any news, leaks, or previews. The prevalence of early access programs and beta tests in modern gaming makes these fraudulent VIP access offers seem plausible to many.

How to Protect Yourself

Here’s the critical fact that stops every GTA 6 early access scam in its tracks: the game is not yet available for purchase, download, or early play through any unofficial channels. Rockstar Games has announced that official pre-orders will commence on June 25, exclusively through digital storefronts and authorized retailers.

Any website offering early access, VIP access, or secret downloads ahead of this official release date is unauthorized and fraudulent. Gamers should remain vigilant and only purchase digital services from authorized sellers.
