OnePlus 16 unveils 185Hz gaming display, Snapdragon 8 Gen 6
OnePlus has officially unveiled the OnePlus 16, a flagship built around the three upgrades the company promised: a faster gaming display, a more powerful chip and a bigger battery. The headline numbers are a 185Hz gaming refresh rate, a 2nm Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 and a 9,000mAh cell. The phone goes on sale in China tomorrow, October 13.

A Gaming Mode That Pushes the Panel to 185Hz

The OnePlus 16 debuts a fourth-generation “Oriental Screen” built on custom X4 luminescent material. The panel runs up to 165Hz in everyday use, with a gaming mode that reaches 185Hz and is billed as an industry first. OnePlus credits a redesigned LTPO circuit for the higher ceiling.

Display spec Detail
Panel Fourth-generation Oriental Screen, custom X4 luminescent material
Global refresh rate Up to 165Hz
Gaming refresh rate Up to 185Hz
Driver circuit Redesigned LTPO
Minimum brightness 1 nit, hardware level
Extras Sunlight mode, triple-calibrated color tuning

The 185Hz mode natively supports PUBG Mobile and Valorant: Energy Operation, with titles such as Minecraft planned. That means the top refresh rate depends on game support rather than applying across the whole phone.

The Chip’s Claimed Gains and the Hardware Built to Hold Them

Under the hood sits Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, built on a 2nm manufacturing process. Every figure below comes from official metrics.

Metric Claimed change
CPU output +13%
GPU performance +44%
Energy efficiency +10%
Sustained performance Double prior benchmarks

A separate “e-sports triple-chip” setup supports the main processor, made up of a G3 network chip, a P4 super display chip and a T3 touch chip. The rest of the gaming performance stack includes the “Wind Chaser Game Kernel,” which adds multi-frame generation, and the “Glacier Cooling System,” which lifts thermal gel efficiency by 50% through a zoned acceleration layout. A high-precision gyroscope is also calibrated for aim and recoil control in shooters.

A 9,000mAh Battery and a China-First Price List

The 9,000mAh Glacier Battery is the largest cell OnePlus has put in any device. Charging, cameras and software round out the package.

Hashlytics Take

Nearly every performance figure here comes from OnePlus itself, so the 13% CPU gain, the 44% GPU gain and the 50% thermal claim are marketing until independent testing says otherwise. The 9,000mAh battery paired with 100W wired charging is the spec most likely to change daily use. The 185Hz mode is narrower than it sounds, because it only helps in supported games. Buyers outside China have nothing to act on yet, since no other markets or prices were shared.
