Poncle unveils Vampire Survivors expansion, new studio

Poncle, the developer behind the hit roguelike Vampire Survivors, announced a major growth push during the Future Games Show Summer Showcase. The plans include a substantial new expansion, a fresh publishing label for “Survivors-like” games, and the opening of a Japan-based studio. It’s a significant moment for a studio that’s grown rapidly since the original game launched in 2022.

Legacy of the Bloodmoon Coming This Summer

The centerpiece of today’s announcements is Legacy of the Bloodmoon, a new expansion arriving this summer across all platforms. The expansion is positioned as the evil twin to the existing Legacy of the Moonspell release, bringing substantial new content to the game.

Players can expect 10 new characters, over 16 new weapons and evolutions, a full new XL stage, and eight original music tracks. The expansion aims to deepen gameplay for both longtime fans and newcomers looking for fresh reasons to pick up the roguelike.

Free 1.15 Update Available Now

To give players immediate new content while the expansion development wraps up, Poncle is rolling out the 1.15 Update Patch for Vampire Survivors. The patch launched today on Steam and will arrive on other platforms by month’s end.

The update includes a new stage, additional characters, new weapons, and new Darkanas. It’s a taste of what’s coming with the summer expansion. In parallel, Poncle confirmed a Nintendo Switch 2 version is in development, though no release date has been announced.

Poncle also introduced “Survivaton,” a new publishing label designed to house all future “Survivors-like projects.” The label will feature games internally developed by Poncle that build on the Vampire Survivors foundation, as well as collaborations with external content partners.

According to the studio, projects under the Survivaton banner will introduce major gameplay changes, content expansions, or genre twists substantial enough to stand as distinct games in their own right. It signals Poncle’s ambition to expand beyond just making sequels.

To strengthen its presence in the world’s second-largest gaming market, Poncle announced the creation of Poncle Japan. The new studio will be led by Sawaki Takeyasu, a lead artist who previously worked on the Devil May Cry series.

The Tokyo-based team will oversee local development initiatives and foster strategic partnerships throughout Japan. The hire of someone with Takeyasu’s pedigree signals that Poncle is serious about creating games with Japanese players and industry partners in mind.

A Franchise Growing Outward

These announcements paint a picture of a studio thinking well beyond a single game. The expansion keeps Vampire Survivors fresh for its existing audience. The Survivaton label sets up room for experimentation and partnerships. The Japan studio opens doors to new development approaches and talent pools.

For Poncle, the next phase is about proving that Vampire Survivors success can translate into a sustainable franchise with multiple revenue streams and regional footprints. These moves suggest leadership confident enough to bet big on that future.
