A $5.3 Billion Cloud Region by 2026
At the core of the announcement is a forthcoming AWS cloud region in Saudi Arabia featuring three Availability Zones. The infrastructure represents over US$5.3 billion in planned investment, with the region set to launch by 2026.
The expansion will give organizations in the Kingdom local access to AWS services while addressing data residency and compliance requirements that have historically been a barrier for regional adoption. The investment signals just how central Saudi Arabia has become to AWS’s broader Middle East strategy.
50MW AI Zone Backed by Trainium and NVIDIA
AWS also announced an expanded collaboration with Humain, a Public Investment Fund owned company driving Saudi Arabia’s AI ambitions. Under the agreement, AWS will support the Kingdom’s first dedicated AI Zone, providing up to 50MW of computing capacity by 2028.
The initiative includes advanced AI infrastructure such as AWS Trainium chips and NVIDIA technologies, resources critical for training and deploying sophisticated AI models at scale.
Arabic LLM Lands in Amazon Bedrock
A key outcome of the Humain partnership is the integration of Allam, Saudi Arabia’s Arabic large language model, into Amazon Bedrock. This gives developers direct access to Arabic language generative AI capabilities built for the region rather than adapted after the fact.
Arabic language model availability matters here because organizations need generative AI that understands local language, culture, and business context, something generic multilingual models have historically handled poorly.
Free Training Programs Target Local Talent
AWS is also introducing free training initiatives, including the AWS AI Training Academy, aimed at building practical AI expertise among individuals and organizations across the Kingdom.
These programs support national efforts to equip Saudi citizens with digital and AI skills ahead of an increasingly AI driven economy. Saudi Arabia’s tech ambitions extend beyond AWS too, with Microsoft also planning its own Saudi cloud region launch.

The headline number here is the $5.3 billion region, but the more interesting move is Allam landing inside Bedrock. Every major cloud provider building in the Gulf eventually hits the same wall: infrastructure alone doesn’t win enterprise contracts if the AI layer on top doesn’t speak the language, literally and culturally, of the customer. By baking a homegrown Arabic LLM into its core AI platform rather than bolting on translation support, AWS is making a bet that local model integration becomes the actual differentiator in this region, not who has the most data centers.
