Rubrik Adds AI Governance Tools for Google Cloud
Rubrik has launched two integrations with Google Cloud designed to address enterprise concerns about controlling autonomous AI systems and protecting cloud databases. The dual announcement targets governance of AI agents and cyber resilience for managed databases, positioning the company at the intersection of two rapidly expanding areas of enterprise technology spending.

Rubrik Extends AI Agent Oversight to Google Cloud’s Gemini Platform

The first integration, Rubrik Agent Cloud (RAC), adds governance controls to Google Cloud’s Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform. It enables organisations deploying autonomous AI agents to monitor, govern, and remediate AI actions in real time using Rubrik’s Semantic AI Governance Engine (SAGE). The platform includes automatic discovery of agents running on Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform Runtime, centralised risk and access visibility, and a feature called Agent Rewind that can reverse destructive actions taken by autonomous systems.

Administrators can manage AI security policies through the same Rubrik interface used for Google Workspace and hybrid cloud data management. According to Gartner research cited by RubrikRubrik, 40% of enterprise applications will be integrated with task-specific AI agents by the end of 2026, creating urgent demand for governance tools.

Why AI Governance Matters Now

Google Cloud and Rubrik frame this partnership as a response to enterprise anxiety about increasingly autonomous systems. As enterprises move into the autonomous era with Gemini Enterprise, security and governance are top of mind, said Satish Thomas, Vice President of Applied AI and Platform Ecosystem at Google Cloud.

The integration addresses a critical tension: organisations want to deploy AI tools rapidly without sacrificing security or control. Rubrik’s Devvret Rishi, General Manager of AI, said the collaboration removes the governance bottleneck for customers developing with Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform by providing real-time guardrails.

Cloud SQL Backup Protection and Compliance

The second announcement extends Rubrik Security Cloud to Google Cloud SQL, enabling automated immutable backups for managed PostgreSQL databases. This integration complements existing disaster recovery arrangements rather than replacing them.

Key capabilities include automated discovery of new Cloud SQL instances, global policy application, and flexible backup storage using Google Cloud Storage Archive, Coldline, or Nearline tiers. The system supports tag-based SLA policies for consistent retention rules across database instances.

Research from Rubrik’s Zero Labs found that 90% of IT and security leaders reported cyberattacks in the previous year, while 35% identified securing data across varied ecosystems as their top challenge. Managed databases reduce operational burden but can complicate backup visibility and recovery planning, especially for compliance-focused organisations.

Consolidating Controls Across Google Cloud Services

Rubrik is positioning both tools as part of a unified control layer spanning Google Workspace, Google Compute Engine, and Google Kubernetes Engine. The approach allows customers to centralise oversight without forcing architectural changes.

Anneka Gupta, Chief Product Officer at Rubrik, emphasised that organisations shouldn’t have to choose between cyber resilience and disaster recovery. The integrations are designed to work alongside existing strategies, enabling compliance, ransomware protection, and cross-region recovery simultaneously.

What Comes Next for Enterprise AI and Cloud Security

These launches reflect how security vendors are adding governance layers to emerging AI workloads while reinforcing protection for the data systems those tools depend on. As enterprises accelerate AI agent deployment and expand cloud database usage, demand for unified governance and backup platforms is likely to intensify.
