Deutsche Telekom and Palo Alto Networks have unveiled a new cloud-based cybersecurity solution designed specifically for Europe’s stringent digital sovereignty requirements. The collaboration, called Sovereign Cortex with T Security, will launch in Q3 this year and targets enterprises and public sector entities across the continent’s most heavily regulated industries.
How the Partnership Works
According to Deutsche Telekom’s announcement, the service integrates Palo Alto Networks’ AI-enabled Cortex SecOps system onto Deutsche Telekom’s cloud platform. The offering specifically addresses the needs of healthcare, public sector, financial services, and critical national infrastructure organizations.
The key differentiator is data control. Deutsche Telekom retains sole authority over encryption by managing the key encryption key (KEK) through Google Cloud’s External Key Manager. This means Deutsche Telekom holds the master keys outside of both Palo Alto Networks and Google, giving customers verifiable control over who accesses their data and how.
Addressing Europe’s Compliance Landscape
The solution arrives as European regulators tighten requirements across the continent. Three major directives drive this urgency: GDPR for data protection, NIS2 for critical infrastructure, and DORA for financial resilience.
Palo Alto Networks emphasized that these regulations require more than data residency. Organizations need demonstrable control over data access, encryption methods, provider auditing, and support operations. Sovereign Cortex with T Security delivers on all these fronts.
The service includes customer and system telemetry data encryption, independently audited access logs, support personnel exclusively based in Europe, and contractual governance under European law.
Industry Validation
Thomas Tschersich, Chief Security Officer at Deutsche Telekom and CEO of Deutsche Telekom Security, positioned the offering as a breakthrough. Our joint offering is currently unique in Europe at this level of quality,
he stated, adding that it meets compliance for NIS2, DORA, and KRITIS without compromising cyber defense effectiveness.
Helmut Reisinger, EMEA CEO at Palo Alto Networks, reinforced the market need. European organizations have a clear need for real-time AI-driven security and verifiable data sovereignty controls, without having to choose between them.
This service directly addresses those demands.
The partnership signals how global technology providers can adapt to localized compliance requirements. As regulatory frameworks continue evolving across Europe, solutions that combine advanced cybersecurity with stringent data control will become essential for adoption in highly regulated sectors.
